Quinn Ewers led Texas to another victory on Saturday as the Longhorns look to secure a place in the SEC championship game. The quarterback was instrumental in Texas’ 31-14 victory over Kentucky in Week 13, completing 20 of 31 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns.
The game against the Wildcats was the Longhorns’ last home game of the regular season. They head to College Station in Week 14 to rekindle their rivalry with Texas A&M after more than a decade. The game’s stakes are high, as the winner will earn a berth in the SEC championship game.
On Sunday, Ewers' girlfriend Madelyne Barne posted a postgame photo of herself and the quarterback on her Instagram story. The two were seen in the tunnel, heading to the locker room. Barne captioned the post:
“Last home game,” she wrote, tagging Quinn Ewers.
The post, though focused on Ewers' final home game of the season, might also offer a glimpse into his plans beyond the 2024 college football season. The quarterback is widely anticipated to declare for the 2025 NFL draft, signaling the conclusion of his college career.
Quinn Ewers' injury update after Kentucky win
Quinn Ewers reportedly sustained an ankle injury during Saturday's victory over Kentucky. He was seen limping off the field after running back Jaydon Blue scored a touchdown in the second quarter. While the quarterback ended the game, there were signs of discomfort.
According to an earlier report from Anwar Richardson of Orangebloods.com, Ewers underwent an MRI on his ankle Sunday morning. The Texas insider report created some uncertainty among fans on the status of the quarterback.
"Texas QB Quinn Ewers will undergo a precautionary MRI on Sunday after injuring his ankle against Kentucky, according to my sources," Richardson wrote on X. "Everyone close to the situation is cautiously optimistic Ewers does not have any structural damage and will only need ankle treatments this week."
Subsequent report from Richardson about Ewers was positive. The quarterback did not suffer a serious injury that will keep him out of action; a massive relief for the Texas fan base.
"I’m told Texas QB Quinn Ewers only has a mild ankle sprain and will be good to go for Texas A&M on Saturday."
Texas would have turned to Arch Manning if Ewers was deemed unavailable for the crucial Texas A&M game. The redshirt freshman was impressive in the couple of games he played earlier this season, presenting him as a worthy replacement in the absence of Ewers.
