The Texas Longhorns have rolled on without the services of injured QB1 Quinn Ewers as backup quarterback Arch Manning has stepped in seamlessly. Manning impressed during his first start in the Longhorns' 35-13 SEC opening win against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
During his weekly news conference, outspoken Texas coach Steve Sarkisian gave some positive news about Ewers.
"He's (Quinn Ewers) just rehabbing as he's been," Sarkisian said. "I think he's been making steady progress one day to the next, which is a good sign. We haven't had any setbacks. It's been steady progress. I think he's getting stronger and more comfortable and more confident. We'll just kind of stay the course with that."

Manning's impressive performances as a backup have triggered calls by some Texas fans to make him the QB1 over Ewers. Sarkisian diplomatically defused the situation by establishing the pecking order in the Texas QB room.
"What a luxury," Sarkisian said, “to have a player of his (Arch Manning) caliber as a backup quarterback. There’s not a lot of teams in the country that have what we have. Those guys are both capable of a lot. Both very good players. When we get Quinn back, we’re all gonna be happy with it.”
Quinn Ewers assured of his place by Manning family
Manning has tallied 900 yards on 70.5% completion resulting in nine touchdowns and two interceptions this season which has only intensified the long-running scrutiny around the talented QB room.
During the Sept. 20 episode of the "Pat McAfee Show," analyst Pat McAfee said that he received a report from the Manning family that has assured the place of Quinn Ewers and that Arch Manning was not looking to usurp the QB1 post.
"One of my source(s) in the Manning family told me this.., We are old school and you never lose your job from an injury," McAfee said. "... Everybody assumes that Arch is on a fast track to the NFL but that isn't true..He wants to develop and stay in Steve Sarkisian's system."
Before he got injured, Ewers registered 691 yards on 73.4% completion resulting in eight touchdowns and two interceptions and was tabbed as one of the favorites for the Heisman Trophy.
The assurance from the Manning family and Texas Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian will come as a welcome relief for the injured QB as the Longhorns chase an SEC and national championship.
