Quinn Ewers has had a strong season under center for the Texas Longhorns. The former five-star prospect – and top-overall recruit – in the 2021 recruiting class has thrown for 1,101 yards, 11 touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 68.2% of his pass attempts.
He suffered an abdominal strain in the second quarter of the Longhorns' 56-7 victory over the UTSA Roadrunners in Week 3, missing the following two games. Ewers returned in Week 7, leading the Longhorns to a 34-3 Red River Rivalry victory over the Oklahoma Sooners.
While he was again under center in last weekend's 30-15 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs, Arch Manning briefly entered the game, playing the final two drives of the first half. A report surfaced from 247 Sports on Monday that Ewers will sit out the rest of the season to prepare for the 2025 NFL draft. Hayes Fawcett of 247 Sports shared a response from Texas' starting quarterback debunking the rumors, tweeting:
"Texas QB Quinn Ewers responds to the rumors: 'Fake News.'"
Check out the since-deleted post from 247Sports and Quinn Ewers' response below.
Ewers has had his two worst performances of the season since returning from the abdominal strain. He has thrown for 410 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions while completing 62.5% of his passes. He will look to bounce back from the fifth-ranked Longhorns' first loss of the season at the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday.
Steve Sarkisian confirmed that Quinn Ewers is still the Texas Longhorns' starting quarterback
While Quinn Ewers was benched for two drives in the then-top-ranked Texas Longhorns' 30-15 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs, Texaxs coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed that there will not be a change at the top of the depth chart.
"Quinn's our starting quarterback," Sarkisian said in the postgame news conference. "I appreciate the fact we're fortunate enough to have a backup like Arch that could come into the game and provide a spark in some sense.
"At the end of the day, Quinn's our starter. I think, like I said, we've got to do a better job around him. I think he would tell you he can play better, but we've got to coach better. Everybody's got to be better for our offense to perform better."

It remains to be seen if Sarkisian will utilize both quarterbacks when they face the Vanderbilt Commodores
