Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers reached out to his former teammate CJ Stroud to learn more about a transfer. Receiver Silas Bolden transferred to Texas from Oregon State. He had played high school football with Stroud.
Once Bolden announced he would transfer to Texas, Ewers said he reached out to Stroud to learn more about the receiver. The star quarterback says he wanted to be familiar with everyone on offense and put them in the best position for success.
In his first year at Texas, Bolden has caught 22 passes for 243 yards and one touchdown. He's had a limited role in the Longhorns offense.
Although Ewers wasn't at Ohio State for a long time, the quarterback says he's thankful for his experience there.
“Super thankful for that time that I got to spend there,” Ewers said, via A to Z Sports. “Like I said, I learned a whole lot. So I don't regret any decision I made on going or anything like that. But the main reason I went was, I felt like I had a great relationship with the coaching staff, and they were winning a lot of games.
"And I wanted to go be a part of something like that. And the reason that I came back to Texas was, one, to be closer to where I’m from and just closer to the resources that I have, and the relationships that I've built over time just being from Texas.”
Ewers has thrown for 3,189 yards, 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Quinn Ewers says it's fun to see CJ Stroud's success in the NFL
Although Quinn Ewers and CJ Stroud were only teammates for a small amount of time, he says it's cool to see how much success Stroud has had.
In his first two seasons in the NFL, Stroud has led the Texans to playoff appearances and AFC South titles.
“It’s been fun to watch him and as his NFL career continues and everything,” Ewers said of Stroud. “But what I really learned from the guys in that room is really how to be a college quarterback and kind of what it takes to be a college quarterback, from preparing in the film room and taking that on to practice and then ultimately the game."
Stroud and the Texans will host the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday in the Super Wild Card weekend.
