Quinn Ewers transfer rumors: CFB insider links Texas QB to Big 10 giant as Arch Manning looks set to start in 2024

The Texas Longhorns have been linked to rumors that Quinn Ewers could be replaced by Arch Manning next season. The combination of having a highly competent backup with a famous last name and having your starting quarterback struggle with injuries throughout the season has done nothing to quiet those rumors.

While Steve Sarkisian changing quarterbacks midway through the College Football Playoff appears unlikely, what happens if Ewers stays for one more season in college football? It would be difficult for Texas to keep Manning on the sidelines for a third season, putting his long-term commitment to the team at risk.

According to RJ Young, the answer could be sending Ewers to Ohio State.

"I love talking about hypotheticals right? So there's a hypothetical in place that Quinn Ewers could leave Texas after this season and not enter the NFL Draft but go back to Ohio State," the football pundit said Thursday on The Number One College Football Show (1:42).

Quinn Ewers joined Ohio State in 2021 as a five-star recruit. At the end of the 2021 season, he transferred to Texas. With Will Howard leaving at the end of this year, Ryan Day will be looking for a new quarterback in 2025 and there would be few better on the market than Quinn Ewers.

However, the most likely outcome at the moment is that Quinn Ewers will declare for the 2025 NFL Draft. The question then would be how high he could get drafted. According to experts while he has the raw potential to be a first-rounder, his inconsistency hampers him.

According to the Bleacher Report, Ewers will get drafted in the third round of the draft around the 100th draft pick. He ranks as the 10th-best quarterback in the country, and he's being compared with Carolina Panthers' Andy Dalton.
