Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning are two quarterbacks for the Texas Longhorns who have both shown how strong they are. For the last couple of games, Ewers has been out with an injury, so Manning played in the Longhorns' victories against UL Monroe and the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
This week, the Longhorns return from their rest week to face rivals the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry. But who could be the Longhorns' quarterback in this game, Manning or the returning Ewers? Coach Steve Sarkisian spoke in Monday's press conference, saying:
"I thought he (Quinn Ewers) looked good coming off the bye. I think if anybody benefited from the time off, it was probably him. We're going to monitor him daily just to kind of see how he continues to progress, but I feel good about how he was [Monday]. I feel good about him going into Saturday, but that remains to be seen."
Quinn Ewers came into this season as the starting quarterback for the Longhorns and was expected to start every game. However, his abdominal injury in the Longhorns' win over UTSA forced Arch Manning into the starting role. In the games he played, he threw for 901 yards and nine touchdowns as he led Texas to three wins.
Steve Sarkisian talks about who the Sooners' QB will be against Texas
Steve Sarkisian did not only talk about his own team's quarterback. He also gave his verdict on the Sooners' quarterback situation. Unlike Texas, Oklahoma has struggled at QB with Jackson Arnold likely to be benched for Michael Hawkins Jr. On the Sooners' new QB, he said:
"He went 50 for a touchdown against Auburn, so we got to be really mindful of his ability to extend plays and then create explosive [plays] with his legs."
Hawkins has shown in the little time that he has played that he can make a difference. But if the Longhorns' defense gets the better of him, he may struggle.
