Following Colorado's entrance into the field at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Deion Sanders was seen visibly moved while speaking with ESPN's Taylor McGregor. The sideline reporter had asked him how he felt after making his final entrance into a football field alongside his sons Shilo and Shedeur Sanders, this time for the Alamo Bowl against BYU.
"The journey... the journey. It's been a tremendous, tumultuous journey and we're making it. I'm sorry this is tough, this tough... I'm seeing when they first put on uniforms when they first started when I first started coaching them. The good, the bad, the indifferent, the ups and downs. Just the journey. It’s been a heck of a journey and I’m thankful and appreciative. I really am. I thank God for it. I’ve got to get it together. I’ve got to coach. I’ve got to get it together.” Said Deion Sanders ahead of the Alamo Bowl
Fans were moved by the coach's words, praising him for his ability to open up.
"Real emotions here. Respect to Prime," one fan wrote.
"Good parent and a great coach," another fan added.
"Can we take a moment and talk about Deion Sanders the father instead as a player or coach?" another fan chimed in.
"Man how lucky he is a father to be in that position so awesome to see, very happy for him," one user added.
"Props Deion did his job as a parent and as a coach. He deserves to relish the moment," another fan wrote.
"Hate or love Deion this is what it’s all about. Awesome stuff," one fan said.
Deion Sanders before the game on what it meant to enter the field one more time with this team
Before the game, Deion Sanders previewed that emotions would get to him at the Alamo Bowl. He admitted that entering the field with this team for a final time would be a tough moment for him:
"It’s gonna be something to behold, I don’t know how I’m gonna handle it. I know Travis is gonna trigger me. I know it because he always does, and he’s gonna bring tears out of my eyes. But I don’t look forward to it. But I do, because that means they’re going to another level, another chapter of life. And they’re gonna soar."
He wasn't wrong, as his short interview with Taylor McGregor showed later on the day. However, it seems that emotions have gotten the better of the Buffaloes. Deion Sanders's team lost 36-14.
Colorado was unable to capitalize on the three interceptions thrown by the BYU Cougars. The Cougars' defense consistently stopped Shedeur Sanders's offense. The Buffaloes even missed a field goal attempt in the first half. Colorado's defense was caught completely off guard once by an onside kick by BYU's special teams. The Cougars special teams also had a surprise of their own, returning a punt for a touchdown.
Travis Hunter has been their brightest spot, with 106 receiving yards and a touchdown catch.
