Lincoln Riley was hired by the USC Trojans in late November of 2021. The football program looked forward to his hiring, as he was a glimmer of hope to save the struggling team. But hiring was not cheap.
As per a Los Angeles Times report, USC paid Riley $19.7 million between July 1, 2022, and June 30, 2023. The figure was extracted through a federal tax return filed by the university and obtained by The Times.
It is reported that out of the nearly $20 million, USC paid Riley $10.42 million in base salary and benefits for the 2022 season.
When he was presented with the multimillion-dollar contract, he was just one of four college football head coaches earning eight figures. Nick Saban, Kirby Smart and Dabo Swinney were the others.
