Colorado star Travis Hunter was a guest on “The Richard Sherman Podcast” on Wednesday. This comes after the former NFL corner called Hunter 'bland' on a podcast appearance last month. However, Hunter's Colorado coach Deion Sanders intervened to calm things down between the two.
On the podcast, Sherman gave Travis Hunter, who is projected to be a top pick, some advice regarding his draft and upcoming professional career in 2025. Sherman narrated the challenges he had going into the NFL after his college football career, showing Hunter the commitment needed in the league. (Start at 32:05)
"When I got here, it was just trying to stay ahead of the curve,” Sherman said. “We came in, it was a lockout year. When we got drafted, that was the only time they could call us, then they couldn't talk to us at all.
“We couldn't go to OTAs, no mini camp, no nothing. It was a straight lockout. The next time they saw me was in the training camp. I went into the training camp as a rookie.
Sherman then narrated how he got a late call-up to the Senior Bowl and how he saw it as a chance to leave behind the college mistake of second-guessing himself on the gridiron.
“I went in there and I promised myself, ‘You're going to play fast and you're going to trust yourself. If you're getting sent home, you're going to get sent home being your best and letting it fly… So when I got to the league, it was the same way.”
Richard Sherman clarifies his “bland” statement to Travis Hunter
During an appearance on Travis Hunter's podcast on Tuesday, Richard Sherman put to rest the controversy that led to a rift between him and Travis Hunter a few weeks ago.
Sherman clarified that he never used the word "bland," but instead stated that Hunter might blend into the crowd as a wide receiver in the NFL, especially compared to his standout potential as a cornerback. (Start at 0:47)
“First off, people hear what they want to hear,” Sherman said. “What I said was 'blend.' It's just because there's so many dudes playing receiver. So many 4.3s, 6-foot-1, athletic.
“There's a lot of young kids that are talented that can play receiver. But there are very few corners that can be athletic, have the ball skills have the extinct. “That's what I meant, you're going to blend into the crowd, but as a corner, it just stands out. Everything you do stands out far and away.”
Initially misinterpreting Sherman's comments as calling him "bland," Travis Hunter gave a subtle response. He playfully wore a T-shirt with the word "bland" printed on it before Colorado's matchup against UCF in Orlando in Week 5.
