Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes began their Big 12 journey with a victory over ND State. Before their season opener, a college football analyst dubbed Coach Prime's team as 'irrelevant' in the world of college football, stating that they were worth 'nothing' in the game.
After Colorado's victory against ND State, ex-NFL star Robert Griffin III shared a post on X taking shots at Paul Finebaum for his comments.
He accompanied the post with a tweet from Front Office Sports claiming that the Colorado vs ND State game on ESPN peaked at 5.2 million viewers and averaged 4.8 Million viewers. It was also considered as ESPN's best Thursday opener in the past seven years.
"Apparently Colorado is relevant," RGIII wrote hinting his sublte jab at Paul Finebaum.
Despite the victory, ND State put up a tough fight against Coach Prime and the Buffs. By the end of the first half, they were in the lead by four points. But QB Shedeur Sanders found two-way star Travis Hunter twice at the endzone to seal the deal for the Buffs, ending the game with a final score of 31-26.
Just like last season Deion Sanders and the Buffs began with a victory. They are now scheduled to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers in week 2. The game is slated to be played on 7th September and is expected to kick off at around 7:30 p.m. ET.
Colorado's Deion Sanders replies to Paul Finebaum's 'irrelevant' comment
On Tuesday, Coach Prime made an appearance on 'Outta Pocket with RGIII'. On the show, he addressed the comments made by Paul Finebaum and pointed out that the team couldn't be 'irrelevant' if Finebaum continued to speak about them.
Coach Prime also said that the ESPN analyst is someone who is trying to be an important figure in the world of college football by talking about him and his team.
"He's talking about us. How can we be irrelevant and you talking about me?" Deion Sanders said. "I know what he's doing and I'm proud of him that he's smart enough to understand that this generation and this thought process and the way we communicate on sports, it's different and he's a dying breed."
"I'm not gonna even respond," Coach Prime continued. "Because that's what you want. Yeah, you just want me to respond. I don't do that. I'm not gonna help you come up."
It will be interesting to see if the Buffs can best their 4-8 campaign from last season and qualify for the playoffs in their first Big 12 campaign under Coach Prime. They managed to secure a victory over Nebraska last year to extend their winning start. Does the same fate lie in store for Matt Rhule's team heading into week 2?
