Texas A&M Aggies RB Rueben Owens made an impression last season as a true freshman. The young college football star earned SEC All-Freshman honors, recording 385 rushing yards and three touchdowns. However, he got injured during a practice session with the Aggies.
Rueben Owens injury update
ESPN reported that Owens is expected to miss the upcoming 2024 season because of his injury. As per reports, the young Texas A&M running back suffered a lower-body injury during scrimmage on Saturday. He's set to undergo an MRI scan over the weekend.
Texas A&M coach Mike Elko released a statement surrounding the running back's condition on Sunday. He said that he would provide an update on Owens' injury during his next meeting with the media.
"Rueben Owens suffered a lower leg injury in our scrimmage on Saturday. I will address his injury in my next media availability," Elko said.
Owens was a five-star recruit out of El Campo who decided to commit to play for the Aggies. As a true freshman last season, he helped them to a 7-6 overall campaign under former coach Jimbo Fisher, who was replaced by Mike Elko.
Mike Elko had high hopes for Rueben Owens in 2024
After Owens put up an impressive performances last year, Mike Elko was looking forward to having him in his offensive game plan in his debut Aggies campaign.
Earlier this year, during spring practice, he had high praise for Rueben Owens for his improvement over the months.
"Rueben has been good. I knew Rueben a little bit from recruiting," Elko said.
"He has had a really good spring in terms of doing the things he needs to do and take his game to the next level. He needs to just learn how to be a running back in the SEC and get four and five yards."
Apart from Owens, the Aggies had a talented RB department with the likes of Amari Daniels, Le'Von Moss and Stanford transfer EJ Smith, the son of HOF RB Emmett Smith.
