The Kansas State Wildcats were able to come from behind and secure a 44-41 win in the Rate Bowl over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. A major reason was the fact that running back Dylan Edwards had a huge game, setting the record for the most rushing yards in a bowl game for the program.

Rutgers (7-6) is going to have a big offseason as coach Greg Schiano’s team had six seniors starting on the offensive side while eight seniors started on defense. Kansas State (9-4) has a lot of key players as underclassmen, but some significant pieces on the defense have played their final snaps of college football.

Let’s take a deeper dive into the box scores and discuss how this game played out.

Rutgers vs. Kansas State Game Summary

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights had a great offensive game as they had 41 points on 401 total yards (237 passing, 164 rushing). The team converted on 7-of-14 third downs but failed their singular fourth-down try. The team was disciplined with just one penalty for five yards.

However, the passing game was less than accurate, completing 14-of-32 passes. Still, the ball moved well with 7.4 yards per pass and 4.6 yards per carry. The Scarlet Knight defense also forced an interception but the team could not hold onto the lead.

The Kansas State Wildcats also had a great game overall as the team had 44 points on 542 total yards (195 passing, 347 rushing). The running game is where the Wildcats dominated as they averaged 8.3 yards per rushing attempt. The passing attack completed 50.0% of their attempts and averaged 6.5 yards per throw.

The defense did a similar job as they also forced an interception. Ultimately, K-State's running game was too much and allowed them to secure a victory.
