The Ohio State Buckeyes, one of the favorites to win the Big Ten Conference and the national championship, announced that Will Howard will be their starting quarterback. He transferred to Ohio State from Kansas State, replacing Kyle McCord, who transferred to Syracuse.
Here's how college football fans reacted to this announcement
Some fans are optimistic about Howard's chances to lead the Buckeyes to success.
"OSU to win it all?" this fan wrote.
"Can't wait to see Will ball out. He's about to prove all these fanbases wrong calling him trash all offseason 😤," another fan wrote.
"We’re winning it all," a third fan posted.
Some fans were not surprised that Will Howard is the starting QB.
"We already knew this…." this fan wrote.
"I dont know why this is breaking news. Buddy didn’t go to OSU to be a QB2 😂," another fan posted.
These fans were surprised that Howard is the starting quarterback.
"Wow, unexpected!" this fan wrote.
"As an Ohio State i couldn’t be more shocked 😮 😏😏," another fan posted.
"Shocked I tell ya shocked," a third fan wrote.
Other fans believe that Ohio State made the wrong choice and that it's going to struggle this season because of it.
"He couldn’t win the starting QB at Kansas State, so he transferred to tOSU. Watch out for Avery Johnson this season," this fan wrote.
"He’ll be their downfall this season. Kyle McCord 2.0" another fan wrote.
'We’re supposed to take OSU seriously as a championship contender when they’re starting K-State’s backup?" a third fan posted.
"This mistake is gonna cost us the natty," another fan wrote.
Finally, these fans took aim at Ohio State coach Ryan Day.
"Former NFL QB Guru can't even develop his own QBs," one fan wrote.
"RYAN DAY RUINS QBs SMH," another fan posted.
Who else could the Ohio State Buckeyes have as their quarterback?
While Ohio State's Ryan Day has chosen Will Howard to be its starting quarterback, the program has several quarterbacks to pick from, the most notable being Julian Sayin.
Sayin is a freshman who was originally committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide. But soon after coach Nick Saban announced his retirement, Sayin decided to take his talents elsewhere and would end up at Ohio State. It is widely expected for Sayin to not play this season to allow him to develop, but he is likely to be in the conversation for the starting job next season.
A more realistic player who could replace Howard is Devin Brown. He was the backup to McCord last season and played a few snaps, scoring two touchdowns. Brown is set to be the backup again this year but could take the field if Howard were to be injured or struggle.
