Ohio State coach Ryan Day made some key recruits this offseason including Air Noland, who turned down offers from Alabama, Oregon, and Texas A&M, to join the Buckeyes. Heading into his freshman year in 2024, Noland outlined the importance of not getting too carried away by emotion.
During an appearance on the On3 Recruits podcast Friday, host Phillip Dukes asked Noland to give Ohio State fans a message before the start of his collegiate career. The young quarterback gave a mature response.
"Let's not look too far into the future," Noland said. "Let's look at the present moment now. The moment is big right now so let's focus on now and excel on now."
"I feel like now is what we need to focus on as a whole. I know we want to beat the team up north, I know we want to win a Big Ten championship, and I know we want to win a national championship. But, focusing on the present moment now is the key and the most important thing, and Go Buckeyes!"
Noland was rated as one of the best quarterbacks in the 2024 class. He previously played for Langston Hughes High School before committing to Ohio State. As a junior, Noland racked up 4,095 passing yards and 55 touchdowns. He also rushed for six touchdowns, leading Langston Hughes to a state championship.
In the 2023 season, Noland completed 149 of 224 passes for 2,140 yards and 22 touchdowns. It will be interesting to see whether Noland gets the nod as Ohio State's starting quarterback for the 2024 season.
Ryan Day still undecided on Ohio State's starting quarterback for 2024 season
During Ohio State's Big Ten media day on Tuesday, coach Ryan Day did not confirm a starting quarterback for the 2024 season.
“I think what we’re going to do those first four practices that are open is have the two fields to try to get as many reps as possible,” Day said. “Once we get done with that fourth practice we’ll get back on one field and go from there. At that point, we’ll probably be a little bit more deliberate about how we parse out the reps.”
Last season, Kyle McCord led the offense for the Buckeyes. However, he entered the transfer total in December and transferred to Syracuse. This year, Ryan Day will have to pick his QB1 from a group consisting of Will Howard, Devin Brown, Julian Sayin, Lincoln Kienholz, and Noland.
