The Alabama Crimson Tide have a new star in wide receiver Ryan Williams, who has started the season in spectacular fashion. It might have all been very different for the Tide if recruitment-minded coach Kalen DeBoer had not convinced Williams to exit the transfer portal after coach Nick Saban retired.

Williams had already tallied three touchdowns before the game against Wisconsin and he added an extra one in Alabama's first half against the Badgers. This came on a spectacular throw by talented quarterback Jalen Milroe.

Another Alabama commit, five-star wide receiver Caleb Cunningham, was left in awe of William's touchdown against Wisconsin, giving him props on X.

"He’s that guy for sure!!" Cunningham posted.

Caleb Cunningham was heavily recruited by programs like the Ole Miss Rebels and Auburn Tigers from Choctaw County High School in Mississippi. But he ultimately opted for the Crimson Tide, announcing his commitment in July.

During an interview with On3, he revealed why he joined Alabama, where he will soon link up with Williams.

“I love coach Shep (JaMarcus Shephard) and how he coaches. He pushes his guys, he develops his guys and I know he can make me better. Alabama is going nowhere under coach Kalen DeBoer. They are only going up. The new era at Alabama is going to be the same as it was under Nick Saban. They are going to get players and win championships."

Ryan Williams gets rave reviews from Nick Saban

Retired Alabama Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban recruited Ryan Williams from Saraland High School in Alabama.

When coach Saban retired, the wide receiver entered the transfer portal, before Kalen DeBoer was appointed. The new coach had to convince Williams to stay in Tuscaloosa.

During ESPN's pregame show, College GameDay, Saban heaped praise on Williams for his maturity and ranked him as one of his best-ever recruits.

“Ryan Williams is a mature competitor, man,” Saban said. “He’s one of the most mature kids I’ve ever recruited. As a freshman, he showed maturity. What that really tells you, when a guy is a mature competitor, is he can focus on the things that matter. For a 17-year-old guy, this guy is explosive. He’s got great hands. He can run after the catch.”

Saban even compared Williams to former Alabama and now-Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper.

“I think this guy reminds me of Amari Cooper when he was a freshman,” Saban said. “I think this guy has a great career."

There is monumental hype around Ryan Williams and at the moment, he seems to be justifying it with his sensational performances on the gridiron.
