Ryan Williams' stats from Saturday night are very rare for a 17-year-old freshman. On Saturday night, he was the hero for No. 4 Alabama as the Crimson Tide survived a nail-biting 41-34 win over No. 2 Georgia.
His 75-yard touchdown to push Alabama ahead with just over two minutes left on the clock proved to be the difference for Kalen DeBoer as he came out victorious in his first real test after taking charge of Alabama in the post-Nick Saban era.
Ryan Williams stats last night
The Alabama wide receiver's awareness and athleticism were displayed against a stout Georgia defense. Ryan Williams' stats last night read 6 receptions for 177 yards with a touchdown to his name.
Williams’ clutch performance saved Alabama from a near collapse after Georgia erased a 28-point deficit to take the lead late in the fourth quarter.
The Bulldogs had one last chance, but freshman defensive back Zabien Brown intercepted Carson Beck in the end zone with just 43 seconds remaining, securing the win for Alabama.
Kirby Smart speaks about Ryan Williams
Georgia coach had nothing but praise for Alabama’s breakout freshman wide receiver, Ryan Williams.
"He's in the same line with the guys they've had in the past," Smart said. "Super quick, talented, confident with the ball, great ball skills, great quickness. He's a track athlete that was elite as a junior. He comes out, and he's already performing at a high level.”
Williams has been lighting up the field this season with 10 receptions for 285 yards and four touchdowns in just four games. Alabama coach also highlighted the freshman's ability to handle the hype:
"He just handles it in such a graceful way. He’s just pouring everything into it. He’s got that smile on his face and that energy about him. Every single day was so consistent."
Alabama has a history of producing NFL stars like DeVonta Smith and Julio Jones and seems to have found its next big star in Williams.
