Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has been rehabilitating after suffering an oblique injury during the Longhorns' game against UTSA. While he missed the last two games, backup Arch Manning has done a wonderful job leading the offense and helping the Longhorns establish a five-game winning streak.
According to journalist Anwar Richardson, Ewers got first-team reps during practice on Tuesday and is expected to return for the Longhorns' Red-River rivalry showdown against Oklahoma.
Fans took to social media to share their thoughts on Ewers' possible return.
One fan showcased his wish to watch Arch Manning continue by stating that Ewers' return will lead to coach Steve Sarkisian losing the trust of his locker room.
"Sark has lost the locker room."
Another fan stated that amid all the Arch Manning hype, fans have forgotten that Ewers is also a capable quarterback.
"I think the football world forgot how good Quinn is. Looking forward to them being reminded of that."
This fan believes that Arch Manning is a better candidate for the rivalry game against the Oklahoma Sooners.
"Playing your 2nd best QB against a rival you have lost to 17 times since 2000 is some wild arrogance, even for Texas."
One Oklahoma fan stated that they are more than happy to see their team face Ewers instead of Arch Manning.
"Thank God! As an OU fan I am WAY more nervous to face Arch due to his running ability! #ThankYouTexas"
This fan had a rather interesting take as to why Quinn Ewers is starting over Arch Manning.
"Ewers is starting to bring his draft stock back up. He's not starting because he's better than Arch. Fans don't realize that the real goal is to get drafted in the NFL. Arch has already shown that he's a 1st round pick."
Arch Manning has recorded 901 passing yards and nine TDs, while rushing for 82 yards and three touchdowns.
Steve Sarkisian provides positive update on Quinn Ewers
During Monday's press conference, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian gave an update on Ewers' situation. According to him, the QB has been making steady progress.
Sarkisian also stated that they will continue the same course of action with Quinn Ewers and help him build his confidence and strength.
"He's just rehabbing as he's been," Sarkisian said. "I think he's been making steady progress one day to the next, which is a good sign. We haven't had any setbacks. It's been steady progress. I think he's getting stronger and more comfortable and more confident, and so we'll just kind of stay the course with that."
After transferring from Ohio State, Quinn Ewers has been the starting QB of Texas since 2022. He led them to a Big 12 title last season. This will be his final season in college.
