The Cotton Bowl encounter between the Texas Longhorns and the Ohio State Buckeyes has engulfed the football world, including Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith. It's not surprising, considering that they are two of the best teams in College Football this season playing for a spot in the National Championship game.
One NFL player who has taken to social media to give his opinion on the game is Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith. The quarterback, who signed a $75 million deal, posted a picture that shows which team he wants to win the game.
The picture comes from Geno Smith's time in college, where he played for the West Virginia Mountaineers. They played in the same conference as the Longhorns for the final season of Smith's time in college, and there was one meeting during that season.
The "Horns Down" hand gesture has become a somewhat of a universal sign that one isn't a fan of the Texas Longhorns, with the gesture being the reverse of the "Hook Em Horns" which is associated with the Longhorns.
Smith played against the Longhorns in his senior year, and the two teams played an absolute classic. In a very high scoring game, the Mountaineers recorded a 48-45 win, with Smith throwing for 268 yards and four touchdowns.
The Longhorns quarterback in that game was David Ash. Due to a series of injuries, Ash never turned fully professional. However, he played football in Poland for a season, leading the Warsaw Mets to a first round Playoff exit in the Polish Football League.
Geno Smith earns a large performance bonus
Moving to 2025, Geno Smith was unable to lead the Seattle Seahawks to the NFL playoffs this season, despite a tight battle in the NFC West. However, while his season is over, Smith finished his final game of the year slightly richer than he started it.
If he won the game (giving the Seahawks their 10th win of the season) finishing the regular season with 4,282 passing yards and a completion percentage rate of 69.7555%, he would have earned $6 million ($2 million for each achievement).
Smith completed all these goals. He ended the 2024 season, throwing for 4,320 yards and a completion rate of 70.4%. He also led the Seahawks to a 30-25 over the Los Angeles Rams to earn his full $6 million bonus.
