Head coach Kalen DeBoer recently finished his first season as the Alabama Crimson Tide HC. Their season finished with a 19-13 loss to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Tuesday. The loss gave the Crimson Tide four losses on the year. It was the first season the team had four or more losses since 2007 when Nick Saban was in his first season as head coach.

It was a disappointing season for the Crimson Tide as they failed to qualify for the SEC Championship Game or the college football playoff. As a result, the organization is making changes to the coaching staff. Although Kalen DeBoer has retained his position, co-defensive coordinator Colin Hitschler has been fired.

Alabama fires Kalen DeBoer's co-defensive coordinator, Colin Hitschler

According to a report from ESPN insider Pete Thamel, the Alabama Crimson Tide have fired Colin Hitschler. Thamel wrote on X:

"Sources: Alabama co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Colin Hitschler has been informed he will not return to the Crimson Tide next year. He has a year remaining on his initial two-year contract."

Hitschler had been hired alongside Kalen DeBoer before the 2024 season. Before taking up the Crimson Tide offer, he held the same position at Wisconsin and Cincinnati.

Alabama has its worst season in nearly 20 years

After the 2023 season, legendary Alabama head coach Nick Saban announced his retirement. He successfully led the Crimson Tide to six national championships during his tenure from 2007 to 2023. Kalen DeBoer and his staff took over from Saban last year.

Although Alabama started the season strong, winning its first four games, they were upset by Vanderbilt and lost 40-35 in a historic game. Alabama was able to bounce back the next week, defeating South Carolina 27-25. However, it lost its next game, 24-17 to Tennessee.

With the Crimson Tide losing two games in a three-game stretch, they had no wiggle room from that point on if they wanted to make the playoffs. It looked like they would qualify, but they lost 24-3 to Oklahoma in the second-last game of the year and this ended their post-season hopes.
