Shedeur Sanders met Cam Newton in Orlando, Florida, ahead of the Week 5 game against UCF. The Colorado quarterback and the Heisman winner caught up with one another on the field of the FBC Mortgage Stadium during the pregame warmup and had a brief conversation that grabbed the attention of many.
Sanders didn't entertain Newton's pleasantries since Newton has been critical of him on his shows.
Shedeur Sanders addressed the controversy surrounding his meeting with Cam Newton on the latest installment of his podcast show “2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders.” The former Jackson State quarterback noted there isn't much to the situation.
“I was just saying what’s up,” Sanders said. “That’s all that really happened. He said something, personally, I didn’t agree with. We talked about it and we had a great conversation but how I feel is how I feel about anything and everything. I just got to work in areas of my life about forgiving. That’s what Dad teaches me overall.”
Shedeur Sanders wants advice from Cam Newton
While Shedeur Sanders didn't specify the exact comments from Cam Newton that upset him, he made it clear that he's seeking guidance from former quarterbacks, not criticism.
“I’m just in a point right now where I just like people that play the position and understand show some support,” Sanders said. “That’s all I want, to get support from the people that played the position.
“But I’m okay with people criticizing my game and I want to know. I like knowing ‘Cool, what does this person think I should do better?’ So I can work on it and be able to get better at it.”
In April, Cam Newton said Shedeur Sanders was not worthy of being a top-four pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. This did not go well with the quarterback whose father, Deion Sanders, believes would be a top-five pick.
Newton's main argument was that for Sanders to succeed in the NFL, he would need to be placed in a favorable situation, emphasizing the importance of the right environment for the young quarterback’s development.
