Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been turning heads in the 2023 college football season. However, offensively speaking, the Buffs as a team have not backed him to his level.

Nonetheless, Shedeur’s debut season in Pac-12 has sparked discussions about him being a potential first-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. However, it looks like switching to the big stage might not be entirely in his hands. For the moment, it seems that Shedeur may have to delay his NFL ambitions.

During an appearance on 'The Dan Patrick Show’, his coach and father, Deion Sanders, suggested that Shedeur might not declare for the 2024 NFL Draft just yet.

“They're gonna come out the same year, next year. They better not try to leave Daddy this year, by the way.”

The Buffaloes were flying high after a 3-0 start to the season, but since then have gone on to lose five of their next six games. Shedeur Sanders, though, has been a bright light when it comes to the Buffs’ season.

His statistics include 2,882 yards, 24 touchdowns, and only three interceptions in nine games. He has proven why he is considered one of the top quarterbacks in college football.

However, not everyone in the college football world is on board with the praise Shedeur is receiving. Some users on X have labelled him an "overrated QB." Let’s look at some of these reactions:

Shedeur Sanders 2024 NFL draft

Shedeur Sanders is emerging as a bright spot for Colorado while playing under the watchful eye of his father, Deion Sanders. The question now arises: Could he be a top quarterback prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft if he chooses to enter the league following this season?

ESPN’s veteran analyst Jordan Reid has ranked Shedeur as the third-best quarterback behind Caleb Williams and Drake Maye. Shedeur has been a surprise package for the Buffs despite accusations of nepotism against him at a high pitch before the season started.

Jordan Reid praised his accuracy and composure in critical moments which apparently has left scouts impressed. Reid further backed Sanders, saying:

“Sanders’ protection hasn’t held up well this season, but he has still battled to at least 300 passing yards in five of nine games this season. He is a calm distributor, and his ability to precisely deliver the ball to his targets on-time and accurately hasn’t wavered despite the breakdowns up front.”

As the 2024 NFL Draft looms on the horizon, the 21-year-old is certainly a prospect to keep an eye on if he chooses to pursue that option. Shedeur Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes (4-5, 1-5 Pac-12) will be up against the Arizona Wildcats (6-3, 4-2 Pac-12) in their Week 11 game on Sunday, Nov. 12.
