Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders has had a truly impressive season. His work has been one of the numerous reasons that has led to Buffaloes' massive improvement in form.
Sanders' performances this season have been recognised, and he has won an award for them.
"Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders has been named as the winner of the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, which has honored the top quarterback in the nation every year since 2000. He is the first CU quarterback to earn the award," wrote Brian Howell on Twitter.
The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm is given to the best quarterback in College Football. Previous winners of the award include Peyton Manning, Andrew Luck, and Carson Palmer, all of whom had generally strong careers in the NFL. Potential rookie of the year Jayden Daniels is the most recent recipient.
Shedeur Sanders joins this list after a season where he had been an instrumental part of his team's success. Coming into the Buffaloes' final regular season game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Shedeur has thrown for 3,488 yards and 30 touchdowns. This figure is only expected to rise once the game with the Cowboys and any post-season games have been completed.
Sanders beat the Oregon Ducks' Dillon Gabriel and the Miami Hurricanes' Cam Ward for the award. These two are strong quarterbacks, who have also been able to lead their team to success. However, unlike Sanders, these two are likely to be leading their teams in the playoffs, something that the Buffaloes may not be able to qualify for.
Shedeur Sanders talks about his situation at Thanksgiving
Football has not been the only thing that Shedeur Sanders has had to think about this week. It was Thanksgiving this week. For Shedeur, that meant having to juggle time between time with his father, Deion Sanders, and his mother Pilar, who is divorced from Deion.
Shedeur spoke about this on the latest edition of his "2Legendary" podcast, saying:
"Before, we was all one big happy family. Everything was fun… we had the turkey, we had everything. Now… I gotta make sure I don’t eat too much at Dad’s house, don’t eat too much at Mom’s house. I gotta make sure I balance out my stomach. A lot of kids that’s parents [aren’t] together that has to have two Thanksgivings, y’all understand what I’m talking about.”
However, this is something that the Buffaloes quarterback has gotten used to over the years, and now he is not phased by it, allowing him to focus on football.
