The clamor behind two-way star Travis Hunter has reached fever pitch after his Week 5 performance during Colorado's 48-21 victory against UCF. While the Buffs were two-touchdown underdogs, Hunter ensured his team would win in blowout fashion.
During the latest episode of his 2Legendary podcast, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who shares an intrinsic connection with Hunter on the gridiron, labeled him the best player in college football (2:30).
"I feel like Trav deserve it. He is the best player in college football. Not one of the best, he is the best player in college football, and I think a lot of people take for granted what he's been able to do. And a lot of people tell him what he can't do.
"Which is wrong, which I don't believe in personally. If he's going in year after year, drive after drive, play after play, proving himself every game, at this point, you should already expect that from Trav. He has greatness in him, and each and every game he's able to showcase it in different ways."
Travis Hunter is currently ranked third (+750) by ESPN in its Heisman Trophy favorites list, just behind quarterbacks Jalen Milroe and Cam Ward.
Travis Hunter tabbed as No. 1 NFL Draft pick
While doubts surround Travis Hunter's chances of winning the Heisman Trophy, as only four of its past 23 winners are non-quarterbacks, nothing stops him from being the NFL Draft's hottest prospect.
In his latest Big Draft article, ESPN's NFL Draft expert Mel Kiper was unequivocal about who his No. 1 pick for the 2025 NFL Draft is.
"He has been No. 1 on my Big Board all season, and he's not going anywhere. The hand-eye coordination, ball skills and quickness are all outstanding. And the way he thinks about the game continues to catch my attention.
"This is a guy who has played essentially the entire game every week, yet he's still so plugged in that he's out there counting how many guys are on the field on punt plays. Simply put, Hunter is doing things we rarely, if ever, see in college football; he has six TD catches and two interceptions."
Travis Hunter has tallied 561 yards this season on 46 receptions, resulting in six touchdowns while adding 15 tackles, three pass breakups, two interceptions and one forced fumble.
