Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders gave major props to his wide receiver Travis Hunter following the two-way star's exploits in Deion Sanders' program's 34-23 win against the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday.
Colorado's football program is ranked in the AP Top 25 teams poll after Shedeur and Hunter led the team to No. 23. The win improved them to 6-2 on the season, ensuring that they will play a bowl game for the first time since the 2020 Alma Bowl.
Considered to be one of the best quarterbacks in college football, Shedeur Sanders, who threw for 323 yards and two touchdowns against Cincinnati, reckons Travis Hunter will win the Heisman Trophy this season. Hunter received nine catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns while also making two tackles on defense as a cornerback.
"Give @TravisHunterJr the Heisman," Shedeur tweeted.
Deion Sanders says Shedeur Sanders cares less about Heisman and more on winning
The Heisman race could go down between the Buffs' Travis Hunter and Boise State's record-breaking running back Ashton Jeanty.
While Buffaloes boss Deion Sanders endorsed his son Shedeur Sanders' name previously, after defeating Cincinnati, he said that now it's more about his development and leading programs to wins than giving a "darn about Heisman."
"I don't care. I really don't. It's just strange and funny to me. I just think it's just ignorant, but it's funny to us because Shedeur could care less," Coach Prime said.
"Shedeur wants to be drafted in a wonderful city. He wants to win out. That's what he thinks about. He ain't thinking about no darn Heisman, man."
Moreover, Deion Sanders added that Travis Hunter is the best college football player in the country while also highlighting the criteria for the award selection.
"Because we're looking at the best high school football player, there hasn't been a Travis Hunter ever. Ever. And I'm sitting up here saying that," Coach Prime added.
While Travis Hunter is on the lips of almost many for the top Heisman candidate, given his two-way abilities, he faces stiff competition from Jeanty, Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel and Miami QB Cam Ward.
