Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders won't be suspended by Big 12 - Source: Imagn

Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders wasn't in his best mind as he shoved a referee during a mid-game ruckus against the Kansas Jayhawks last week. The Buffaloes suffered an upset 37-21 loss to Kansas, shattering their playoff hopes and possibly missing out on playing the Big 12 championship game.

It paved the way for wild rumors about Sanders possibly getting suspended by Big 12 for his actions. Buffaloes beat writer Brian Howell provided an update on the situation.

Howell said that the quarterback won't face any suspension, citing a source from Big 12 who added that the incident is being "handled internally with CU."

Had the suspension been enforced, Shedeur Sanders could have missed out on Colorado's Week 14 game against Oklahoma State at Folsom Field. It seems the Big 12 would rather allow Colorado to take disciplinary action in their way rather than face outrage from broadcasters, media and the Buffs fan base.

What happened on the field that prompted Shedeur Sanders to shove the referee?

During the second half of the game, Shedeur Sanders and Colorado's offense was at odds with the Jayhawks' secondary following a controversial hit to the quarterback's knees by Kansas defensive end Dean Miller.

The hit could have led to a major injury for Sanders, had both his feet been on the turf. Moreover, the initial flag was drawn back, and Miller was charged with no penalty.

That ignited the Buffs offense spearheaded by Sanders, who was ready to get into a heated altercation with the Kansas Jayhawks' defense. However, the referees got into the middle to avoid a spat. During the ordeal, a frustrated Sanders shoved the referee, who was caught in the midst of the action.

Although the Buffaloes endured a tough loss, their quarterback wasn't to blame for the defeat, as Shedeur Sanders threw for 266 yards and three touchdowns, completing 23-of-29 passes.

However, the defense didn't come through for Colorado, as it went from being ranked No. 16 to No. 23 entering Week 14.
