After leading Michigan to its first national championship title since 1997, Jim Harbaugh decided to move on to the next phase of his career, as he joined the LA Chargers. On Jan. 26, 2024, Sherrone Moore was hired to be the next head coach for the Wolverines.

Moore joined Michigan in 2018. He came in as a tight ends coach, which lasted from 2018 to 2021, and was later named the offensive line coach. In 2023, Moore served as Michigan's acting head coach for four games, replacing Harbaugh, who was facing suspension due to the sign-stealing and in-person scouting accusations.

Owing to his limited head coaching experience, Moore will be facing the spotlight in the 2024 season as the defending champions. In a conversation with Joel Klatt, Moore opened up about the strategy that will help the Wolverines retain their title. He said on The Joel Klatt Show:

"Yeah, we're gonna continue to work. Just work as hard as we can every single day. Don't look at the prize. Don't look at the game sound field, like, look at right now and do whatever we can do today to get better. We know we've got great talent here on both sides of the ball. We built it to sustain and not be up and down." (26:28)

Josh Pate weighs in on Michigan's national championship dreams

The Wolverines created history by bagging the national championship title with an impressive 15-0 record in the 2023 college football season, which was later inked on Jim Harbaugh's arm, owing to his promise ahead of the season.

However, since then, the Wolverines have lost big names like Blake Corum and JJ McCarthy, along with 11 other stars, during the NFL draft in 2024.

Fans would be interested to see how Sherrone Moore will maintain the teams' momentum heading into the next season. Josh Pate spoke about the Wolverines' chances of bagging another national championship title.

"I am high on Michigan, I don't think they are going to win the national title this year. So if that's being low on them, maybe we define that differently. But I'm very high on them as a team. Defensive line, linebacker combination about as good as you'll see in college football this year or very close to it," Pate said (via CBS Sports College Football's Instagram account).
