Michigan Wolverines coach Sherrone Moore shared his thoughts on quarterback Bryce Underwood ahead of Michigan’s season finale against the Alabama Crimson Tide at the ReliaQuest Bowl on Tuesday. According to The Michigan Insider’s Alejandro Zúñiga’s tweet on Monday, Moore praised the young quarterback when asked about his observations:
"Extremely talented,” Moore said. “He has great arm strength. He can make all the throws. He can run. He's gonna be an unbelievable player. When that is, I don't know, and we'll figure that out."
Underwood, the nation’s No. 1 prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, is set to join the Wolverines next year. The five-star recruit is already practicing with Michigan in preparation for the ReliaQuest Bowl. While Underwood has the potential to be the Wolverines’ starting quarterback in 2025, he’s not the only new addition to their QB room.
Michigan will also welcome Mikey Keene, a seasoned transfer from Fresno State, during the offseason. With Keene’s experience and Underwood’s raw talent, the two are expected to compete for the starting role next season.
Michigan football's QB competition for 2025 is heating up, with Bryce Underwood and Mikey Keene at the center of the battle
Just a month ago, Belleville’s Bryce Underwood—the nation’s No. 1 high school recruit—was the clear favorite. However, the arrival of Fresno State transfer and graduate student Mikey Keene has added an intriguing twist. Keene officially signed with Michigan on Sunday, signaling a fierce competition ahead.
"Mikey has been a great addition,” Coach Moore said [H/t Detroit Free Press]. “Just the talks I've already had with him. He's excited to push Bryce, really excited to try and go challenge for that starting spot. It's not given, someone's going to have to go earn it."
The early signs of camaraderie between the two quarterbacks have impressed Moore.
“It’s like they’ve known each other for a long time,” he said.
Underwood’s journey to Michigan has been equally captivating. Originally committed to LSU, the highly touted prospect reportedly received a $1.5 million annual NIL deal offer from the Tigers, per SI.
However, the Wolverines, determined to secure a long-term answer at quarterback, upped the ante. They reportedly offered a four-year deal worth $10 million, with potential earnings reaching $12 million over his time in Ann Arbor.
