Sherrone Moore will be keeping a tradition alive as the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines. Moore was hired as the Wolverines head coach after Jim Harbaugh took the job with the Los Angeles Chargers in the NFL.
Moore was interviewed by the Big Ten Network and said he would continue to wear the Skinny M hat that Harbaugh wore.
“It’s pretty cool to wear this hat, the skinny ‘M,’ and a tradition I wanted to carry on and that Coach did and obviously Bo did,” Moore said. “It feels different, understanding and knowing the position that you’re in, but excited to be able to wear it.”
Moore says wearing the Skinny M hat is something he wanted to do to continue the tradition of the head coach wearing that hat.
Moore served as the interim coach last season when Harbaugh was suspended. He led the program to wins over Penn State, Maryland and Ohio State as Michigan went on to win the national championship.
Sherrone Moore proud of the culture he's built
Although Sherrone Moore is entering his first year as the Wolverines coach, he says he is pleased with the culture he has built.
Michigan lost some key players to the draft like J.J. McCarthy and Blake Corum, but Moore still believes he has the right group going forward.
“The culture that’s built now is the guys understand that, and they understand that it doesn’t really matter who’s in that seat, who’s in that chair, who’s in those uniforms, that the standard stays the same,” the Michigan coach said, via On3.
“When you wear the block ‘M,’ you wear it with pride and you go attack it and try to go win championships. That’s what we’re gonna try to do. We know there’s a process to it, and we’ll keep attacking that process,” he added.
Despite winning the national championship last season, Michigan has the fourth-best odds of winning the Big Ten behind Ohio State, Oregon and Penn State. The Wolverines are also +115 to make the playoffs, as DraftKings expects Michigan to miss the postseason.
The Wolverines will open their 2024 season at home on Aug. 31 against Fresno State. Michigan has notable games against Texas, Washington, Oregon and Ohio State.
