Despite losing big names like Jim Harbaugh, JJ McCarthy, Blake Corum and 11 other players that were picked in the 2024 NFL draft, Sherrone Moore's Michigan will head into the 2024 college football season with uncertainty.
Sherrone Moore was appointed the Wolverines' coach on January 26, 2024, after Jim Harbaug moved to the NFL. Moore joined Michigan in 2018, first as a tight ends coach before becoming the offensive coordinator. During the 2023 season, Moore was appointed the interim head coach for four games when Harbaugh was suspended due to sign-stealing allegations.
In an interview at the 2024 Big Ten media days, Sherrone Moore opened up about the Wolverines' thought process going into the season as the defending champions despite securing the third spot in the Big Ten preseason rankings:
"Win the big games, beat our rivals, beat Ohio State. win the big 10. Go to College Football Playoff and win it. For us, that's something we strive to do. tough, smart, dependable, relentless, enthusiastic, and together is how I'll describe our team.
"We're gonna do everything we can to strive for perfection. Everything we do, everything we do every day is a process, and we'll continue to strive to do that, and we'll continue to do that with contagious enthusiasm unknown to mankind."
He added:
"We're not going to stray away from the goal of trying to win it all, when you're at Michigan. That should be your goal every single year."
Sherrone Moore reacts to Nick Saban praise
Nick Saban didn't shy away from praising Michigan's then offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore during his 2024 NFL draft appearance. Saban called the Wolverines "the best coached offensive line," despite a disappointing 27-20 in the Rose Bowl showdown.
Michigan had a triumphant 15-0 season last year, which was later inked to Jim Harbaugh's arm as a tattoo owing to his promise to the players pre-season. A major factor in their run was their offensive line, which gave JJ McCarthy enough opportunities to show off his quarterback abilities.
During an interview via "The Michigan Insider," Sherrone Moore spoke about receiving the admiration from seven-time national champ Nick Saban:
"I didn't even know that. That's cool, I saw something about like, J.J. (McCarthy), and I didn't even hear that comment. But that's an awesome statement from, probably, arguably, the best college coach in college history.
"And I've had the chance to talk to him a couple of times just about head coach life and things like that. So it means a lot. It means a lot to me, it means a lot to the players."
