The Colorado Buffaloes have hit a major snag in the Week 2 matchup against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, as they may be without key defensive back Shilo Sanders.
The Buffs, who had a close 31-26 encounter against the ND State Bison in their season opener, hoped to build on their victory. But this update could trouble Coach Prime in achieving his winning aspirations.
Shilo Sanders' potential injury becomes huge setback for Colorado
The son of Buffs' coach Deion Sanders recorded two tackles before he was forced to leave in the first quarter due to an undisclosed injury. He later headed to the locker room for further evaluation.
Shilo, an experienced athlete on the Buffs’ defense, was expected to play a critical role in stopping Nebraska’s offense, which got off to a flyer in the first quarter, leading 14-0.
Shilo was reportedly ill after the Week 1 game against ND State, but Coach Prime gave him the green light for this Week 2 clash. Sophomore safety Carter Stoutmire stepped in to fill Shilo's void for the rest of the game.
Colorado is trailing 28-0 at the end of the second quarter, and it seems that Sanders’ team won’t even have the 3-0 fairytale start that they engineered at the start of the 2023 season. The Buffs had defeated Matt Rhule's team by 36-14 back then.
Deion Sanders Jr. criticized brother Shilo over his rough play
While Coach Prime’s son has a repo to maintain for his aggressive style, it looks like Shilo may have crossed the line with several hard-hitting plays, earning him the dirty player label.
One particularly dangerous move in question was a late hit that led to a crucial red-zone penalty. Sanders was spotted shoving Bison players out of bounds.
While officials didn't flag the plays, fans and critics have noticed these instances. Adding to the scrutiny, Shilo’s brother, Deion Sanders Jr., shared his opinion on the “Zero 2 Sixty” podcast, saying,
"He was playing like a crash dummy out there. You've got to wait for the action to come to you. You can't just go out there crashing into people, especially on third down. It's just dumb."
No doubt, Shilo Sanders will have to buckle up in the coming weeks. And hopefully shut down the critics once in for all.
