Colorado Buffaloes QB Shedeur Sanders endured a scary moment in their 37-21 loss to the Kansas Jayhawks in Week 13 of the 2024 college football season. Deion Sanders’ son suffered a controversial late hit, sparking questions from fans about officiating standards and player safety.

The hit occurred in the first half when Jayhawks defensive end Dean Miller dove low into Sanders' knees after a pass, launching the star quarterback into the air. To the shock of many, no penalty was called.

Fans expressed their frustration on social media, with one writing:

"SHOULD’VE EJECTED HIM! THAT’S SO DIRTY!"
"Insane that that’s not roughing bro what are we doing 😭," another wrote.
"That was almost career ending omg that’s cheap," one fan commented.
"What a joke this wasn’t a penalty," one said.
"That’s disgusting, should’ve been kicked out of the game," another added.
"This weak, it’s corny and it’s wack. Going at a QB knees? Of all positions? He ain’t in the pocket and it’s by any means necessary. This is the open field and you go head down, head first right into his knees. A FREAKING QB!! That’s wack man," anothr commented.

Shedeur Sanders discusses scary play postgame

Shedeur Sanders was shaken after the play but unharmed. The 22-year-old QB addressed the incident post-game.

“I just don’t know how that’s legal. It is what it is, but plays like that — yeah, it’s tough,” he said.

Despite the injury scare, Sanders delivered a gritty performance. He threw for 267 yards and three touchdowns, completing 22 of 28 passes. He also rushed for 25 yards, but his efforts weren’t enough to lift Colorado to victory.

Coach Prime wasn’t pleased with the team’s performance in the loss, calling out the Buffaloes' mindset.

"We started smelling ourselves a little bit. That's what I just told our team. We got intoxicated with the success," he said.
"We got intoxicated with the multitude of articles and the assumption that we're this and the assumption that we're that. And we did not play CU football. Therefore, we got our butts kicked. It is what it is."

The loss snapped Colorado’s four-game win streak, dropping them to 8-3 and jeopardizing their Big 12 title and playoff hopes.
