Simone Biles has secured her second gold medal in the ongoing Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. The superstar gymnast beat her Brazilian counterpart, Rebeca Andrade, in the women's individual all-around final, securing a total score of 59.131 points.
Biles was also instrumental in Team USA claiming the gold medal in the women's team all-around final on Tuesday and she kept the momentum going two days later. This marked a brilliant return for the gymnastics star after withdrawing from the games in Tokyo in 2021.
UConn point guard Paige Bueckers celebrated Simone Biles and Sunisa Lee, who claimed the bronze medal, on her Instagram story following the event. She also added three goat emojis on her post.
Simone Biles becomes the most decorated U.S. Olympic gymnast in Paris
After winning the gold medal in the women's team all-around final, Simone Biles became the most decorated American gymnast in the history of the Olympic games. Biles’ medals totaled eight (now nine) on Tuesday, earning them across three Olympics.
Allyson Felix is the only non-swimmer woman with more Olympic medals than Simone Biles for Team USA, with 11 in total. However, that record could be surpassed in Paris, as Biles has qualified for three more individual event finals — the vault, balance beam, and floor exercise.
Ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Biles was already one of the most decorated gymnasts in history, with a total of 38 medals at the world championships and Olympics. She surpassed Vitaly Scherbo after winning five medals at the 2023 World Championships.
Biles can continue rewriting the history books and further extend her lead in Paris over the next couple of days. Her success so far in the ongoing Olympic Games showcases a significant improvement in her mental health following the Olympics in Tokyo in 2021.
