SMU vs. Virginia game summary

As the betting favorite heading into the game, the SMU Mustangs took control from the get-go. They scored a TD halfway through the first quarter to take an early lead.

The second quarter began with both teams missing field goal attempts. However, on the next drive, SMU was able to score another TD to extend its lead to 14-0. Virginia was unable to respond on the next drive, and when SMU got the ball back, it scored a field goal. The Cavaliers did not get anything done on their final drive of the half, so the teams went into halftime with a 17-0 lead for SMU.

The third quarter was the same as SMU scored a field goal to extend its lead. Virginia failed to capitalize on an interception, so the Cavaliers went into the third quarter down 20-0.

The fourth quarter started with another SMU TD. However, a missed extra point meant they only extended their lead to 26-0. Then, two drives later, Virginia capitalized on an SMU fumble to score its first TD. However, things would get worse as the game came to a close. SMU would score another TD with less than two minutes to extend its lead to 33-7. That would prove to be the final score as the Mustangs ended a dominant performance over the Cavaliers.
