DJ Uiagalelei and the Florida State Seminoles have not had the season they expected. After transferring from Oregon State to Florida State, there was hope that Uiagalelei could help the Seminoles compete for an ACC title. Florida State was ranked in the top 10, and Uiagalelei was one of the most high-profile transfers of the off-season.

However, this season has gone far worse than anyone could have anticipated as Florida State (1-9) only has one win through its first 10 games. Now Uiagalelei's father, Dave, has sparked transfer rumors by tweeting cryptic statements about his son's status. He tweeted:

"Sometimes, you have to leave to LEVEL UP."

It is an interesting thing to say on Twitter because at first glance DJ Uiagalelei is in his final year of NCAA eligibility. However, since he only played five games this year because of injuries, he might be able to appeal for a medical exemption. Typically, the cut-off for redshirting is a maximum of four games. However, sometimes there are exceptions given to injured players.

If Uiagalelei receives a medical exception and can return to the NCAA next year, he could stay with Florida State or transfer. It is unclear how much attention he would get as a transfer candidate. He was a highly sought-after player last off-season, coming off three straight 2200+ yard seasons. However, after his poor showing this season with the Florida State Seminoles, he likely will not have as many teams calling for him.

How would DJ Uiagalelei leaving impact the Florida State Seminoles?

If DJ Uiagalelei does not return to the Florida State Seminoles next season, whether it is because he transfers or he is deemed ineligible to play by the NCAA, they would need to find a new quarterback. The Seminoles have two freshmen on their roster behind Uiagalelei on the depth chart, Brock Glenn and Luke Kromenhoek.

Glenn has gotten most of the playing time in Uiagalelei's absence, but both players have gotten into games. However, neither has impressed to the level where they have the starting job locked up for next season.

Since the Seminoles are always looking to compete for conference and national championships, they will likely look to the transfer portal again in the off-season. If that is the case, it is not yet clear which players will be available for the Seminoles to recruit.
