The Colorado Buffaloes held their first team meeting at Champions Center after New Year's. Deion Sanders helped the program to a 9-4 record and qualified for the Bowl games for the first time since 2020 this season in the Big 12. Unfortunately, they lost to the BYU Cougars in the Alamo Bowl, ending the collegiate career of star players Shedeur, Shilo, and Travis Hunter.
On social media, a video of the players attending the first team meeting of the year has gone viral. In the video, Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter were nowhere to be seen. They are declaring for the upcoming 2025 NFL draft, marking an end to their college journey.
College football fans took to the comments section to react to the absence of Colorado's star players for the first time in two years. One fan stated that Deion Sanders will also be leaving the team amid rumors of his potential NFL move.
"And soon to be without Deion"
Another fan felt that despite the absence of Shedeur and Travis, the room was still filled with talented players on the roster.
"Room still packed with talent and only more on the way."
This fan was excited to witness the new era of the Colorado Buffaloes.
"This is exciting. It's the future. Can't live in the past. Welcome to all the new members."
Another fan has high hopes for five-star QB prospect Julian 'JuJu' Lewis.
"Kept telling ppl to enjoy them while they were there, but I think Juju will be good."
One fan stated that these new players have a lot to prove to the Buffs nation.
"Lets go Boys! Big shoes to fill! #SkoBuffs nation with y'all."
This fan was not very optimistic about Colorado's future without Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter.
"1 win team."
Stephen A. Smit has one concern about Shedeur Sanders in the NFL
The Colorado QB is projected to be the No.1 overall pick in the draft this April. However, Stephen A. Smith provided a reality check to coaches who are targeting Shedeur in the draft.
On Saturday's episode of 'First Take' Stephen A. Smith talked about how the Colorado QB took a lot of physical tackles on the gridiron. He was the most sacked QB in 2023 (52 sacks) and was sacked 42 times this season in the Big 12. Smith believes that NFL coaches will have to ensure a strong O-line to protect the QB on the field and keep him healthy in the long run.
"I think he (Shedeur) is going to be big time on the pro level as well, assuming he gets a little bigger," Smith said. "Cause I think that he does playing against them men when they gonna put a lick on him. He took a lot of licks in college. He can't take that on a pro level. I can tell you right now...If that happens, he ain't gonna last long. (TS- 8:40 onwards)
While Coach Prime's sons prepare for their professional journey in the NFL, college football fans will be excited to see Colorado's new journey next season. Can Coach Prime and his new roster be a strong contender for the Big 12 title and the playoffs?
