New North Carolina coach Bill Belichick has hit the ground running with his business in the transfer portal just weeks after being named Mack Brown's successor. The Tar Heels job is Belichick's first foray into college football after a storied career in the NFL.

During Tuesday's segment of the "Let's Go" podcast, Belichick sat down for an interview alongside former Michigan Wolverines and current Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh.

Harbaugh was full of praise for the revered Tar Heels coach and hyped up his debut in college football with North Carolina (17:00).

"You're the GOAT. The greatest of all time. And you've lapped the field," Harbaugh said to Belichick. "I don't get starstruck by too many people, Coach, but I've always had that feeling around you. It's an honor and a pleasure to be able to talk to you as a great admirer of everything you've done. Excited to see all the great things you're going to do at UNC. It's really cool."

When Bill Belichick praised Jim Harbaugh's team building

Bill Belichick is the most decorated coach in the NFL's history. He presided over the New England Patriots dynasty alongside quarterback Tom Brady before he was fired in January 2023.

Last month, during an appearance on the "Pat McAfee" show, Belichick praised Jim Harbaugh's team-building capabilities. Harbaugh was named the Los Angeles Chargers coach following a successful tenure with the Michigan Wolverines.

"I think that's what Jim does is establish cultures," Bill Belichick said. "That's exactly what he does. He's tried to build a more balanced team, more emphasis on the running game, more emphasis on defense. Jim's established a hard-nosed tough culture, which is really what every team needs. They need a culture that everybody believes in and can rally around."
"Jim's done a good job of that. You knew that's what it was going to be. Jim did that at San Francisco. That's what he did at Michigan. That's what he believes in."

Bill Belichick further broke down the aspects of the Chargers' game that Harbaugh has changed to make them a successful team:

"More emphasis on the running game. More emphasis on defense and taking some of the pressure off Herbert so he doesn’t have to go back there 45 times a game and throw for 350 yards to win," Belichick said. "And Herbert’s embraced that. He’s done a better job of doing what the team needs him to do. He doesn’t have to go back there and lead the league in passing.”

After defeating the New England Patriots 40-7, Harbaugh has led the Los Angeles Chargers to a playoff spot and a 10-6 record in his first season, fully justifying Belichick's praise.
