The return of Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers sidelined backup QB Arch Manning, with the former dominating the airwaves in the Red River Rivalry game against the Oklahoma Sooners. Ewers went 20-of-29 for 199 yards, resulting in two touchdowns in the game after throwing an early interception.
During his weekly news conference, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian revealed how he would handle the comeback of the Ewers from injury with possible game time for Manning, who was impressive in his absence.
"I never liked it as a starter when backups would come in for even a single play," Sarkisian said. "The rhythm of the game is important, and that's something I don't want to disrupt. He's (Arch Manning) learning, and that's what's most important right now. His growth since joining us has been huge, and I think that's the key for him."

Last week, Sarkisian backed the Heisman-contending Quinn Ewers over Arch Manning as long as the QB1 stays healthy, suggesting that the latter will likely see limited game time for the rest of the season. SEC Network analyst Tim Tebow backed the Texas coach's decision during an episode of "SportsCenter."
"I think Arch has done an amazing job," Tebow said. "I think he is a top 25, top 30 quarterback in college football, even in only a little bit of time, only starting a couple of games.
"He is doing a great job, but I also think it's so important that you have to be clear. Quinn Ewers is one of the best quarterbacks in the country. ... No matter what happens today, he has to be your guy."
How Georgia is preparing for Arch Manning and Quinn Ewers
Ahead of the crucial Week 8 clash between the Texas Longhorns and coach Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs, Smart revealed how his team was preparing for Arch Manning and Quinn Ewers praising both quarterback's abilities.
“It doesn’t change how we prepare,” Smart said. “They’re not really different style quarterbacks. They’re both really good. I’ll say this. You watch the games that Arch played — he played really well. He did some really good things.
"Look at his numbers. He played and he comes out the first couple plays against Mississippi State ripping it and firing it in his first SEC play and played really good."
"But, Quinn’s a great player,” Smart added. “They got a great quarterback. They got a great situation because they’ve got two guys that really both came in and are playing well.”
Arch Manning has gone 58 of 70 for 901 yards on 70.5% completion, resulting in nine touchdowns and two interceptions, while adding 82 rushing yards, resulting in two touchdowns this season.
