The No. 1 ranked Texas Longhorns saw wide receiver Isaiah Bond suffer an ankle injury during the team's victory against the Oklahoma Sooners last week. This led to fears that the player will miss the team's important clash with the No. 5 ranked Georgia Bulldogs this weekend.

On Thursday, Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian gave an update on the condition of Bond. He told the reporters that he intended to:

"Upgrade Isaiah to probable for the game" and that Isaiah had “a pretty good practice today.”

This is good news for Texas. The upgrade in status from "Questionable" to "Probable" means that Bond will likely be able to play against the Bulldogs on Saturday.

The former Alabama wide receiver leads the program in receiving yards (369) and is the joint leader in receptions alongside tight end Gunnar Helm.

The big game comes at a time where the Bulldogs defense is not a strong as it has been earlier in the season. Last week, Georgia conceded 31 points to Mississippi State, and gave up more than 300 yards of offense in their last two games.

With Isaiah Bond on the field, it is likely that Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers (who looked rusty in the Oklahoma win) will be able to exploit this defense, putting valuable points on the board for Texas.

This will be needed, as with two strong offenses facing each other, it may come down to one play.

Kirby Smart gives his verdict on Isaiah Bond

Georgia Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart gave his verdict on Isaiah Bond in his own press conference:

“He’s electric, a great release guy. He’s twitchy, fast, elite speed, elite body quickness. When you talk about covering people, he’s explosive. You can hand off, or he can run through the middle of your defense and blow the top off.”

Smart knows all too well what Isaiah Bond can do to his defense.

Bond was on the Alabama team that defeated the Bulldogs in the 2023 SEC Championship Game. During the game, he had five catches for 79 yards, with no touchdowns.

This may not seem like a lot, but this is what Bond has been averaging in each game this season.

With Bond, the Longhorns offense is one of the strongest, and could cause the Georgia Bulldogs many problems on Saturday night.
