The Heisman Trophy finalists were announced on Dec. 9, and No. 23-ranked Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders was not one of them. His teammate Travis Hunter was one alongside Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, Miami quarterback Cam Ward and Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel.

On Thursday, an Oregon fan made a post on Twitter with a made-up quote from Sanders that said that he had better numbers than Dillon Gabriel.

However, shortly after the post, Shedeur Sanders responded to the tweet, claiming it was fake news and lies.

"Cmon stop with the lies I never said this. That’s foul for sharing fake news," wrote Shedeur.

Colorado fans came out in support of Sanders, believing their quarterback is a respectful athlete and would never put anyone else down to prop himself up.

"Stop putting words in nephews mouth, Shedeur is a real respectful athlete. Thank you for speaking the real," one fan wrote.
"You don’t have to defend yourself against lies Shedeur, that doesn’t even sound like anything you would say. Peace to you always Young Brother…," one fan commented.
"Thanks for clearing that up. You’re one of the nations best. Good luck rest of the season and beyond. Great future ahead of you," one fan added.

The support continued as fans praised Sanders for his play on the field and how he is as a person off of it.

"They can't be you so they hate you! Don't change man. Nothing but love for you're whole family," one fan wrote.
"Bro I’m glad u said it .. I been saying u were the best quarterback in college football . You got talent," one fan commented.
"I mean, in all fairness you DID have better numbers than that boy from Oregon," one fan added.

Shedeur Sanders will have another chance to show his talent in Colorado's bowl game

Shedeur Sanders will have one last chance to show his talent this college football season. His Colorado Buffaloes will compete in the Alamo Bowl on December 28th against the No. 17-ranked BYU Cougars.

Sanders has had an excellent season, completing 337 of 454 passing attempts for 3,926 yards and 35 TDs. He also has four rushing TDs this season. He is widely expected to be one of the first two quarterbacks drafted in the 2025 NFL draft alongside Cam Ward. He is even in the conversation to go first overall.
