On Thursday, the Florida Gators announced they were sticking with Billy Napier as their coach for next season. Despite Florida's struggles in just under two seasons with Napier, the team has faith that he can turn things around in 2025.
Nonetheless, fans on social media had their say on Napier being given another season, and many slammed the program for persisting with the coach.
On X, a few mocked the Gators for keeping hold of Napier, while analysts and fans have called for the team to fire the coach.
"Haahahaahha. stuck in mediocrity." one wrote.
"So Florida is calling it quits," added another.
"Common Florida L," a third commented.
Others also sarcastically trolled the Gators for their decision, suggesting they should give Napier a lifetime contract. Even other college fanbases joined in to mock Florida.
"Great decision Gators. He deserves a lifetime contract," a user wrote.
"The greatest decision ever old man," a Vols fan added.
"As a Vols fan, this is great. Truly," another tweeted.
"ROLL TIDE!!! I HOPE THEY KEEP HIM FOREVER!!!" a fan commented.
Florida (4-4, 2-3 SEC) suffered a 34-20 defeat against No. 2 Georgia in Week 10. However, with the team showing faith in Napier, the coach will look to get the Gators a bowl game, at least this season.
Billy Napier will aim to get Florida bowl eligibility in 2024 season
To ensure bowl eligibility, Billy Napier's Florida needs two more wins. However, the Gators have a challenging four-game schedule ahead of them.
They face three conference teams, all of whom are in the AP Poll's Top 20 rankings.
Florida will be on the road to face No. 5 Texas (7-1, 3-1) on Saturday. The Gators then host No. 14 LSU (6-2, 3-1) on Nov. 16 and welcome No. 16 Ole Miss (7-2, 3-2) on Nov. 23. Florida will travel to face in-state rivals Florida State (1-8, 1-7 ACC) on Nov. 30.
