The Notre Dame Fighting Irish pulled off an unexpected victory against the Indiana Hoosiers in the College Football Playoffs on Friday. Marcus Freeman's team secured a 27-17 win and took a step forward towards competing for the natty.
However, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin was not very impressed with Notre Dame's triumph. The Rebels finished the season with a 9-3 record. Already filled with the frustration of the CFP Committee eliminating Ole Miss from the playoffs, Lane Kiffin used this opportunity to take a dig at the new 12-team format and the committee.
"Really exciting competitive game @CFBPlayoff. Great job!!," Kiffin wrote.
Fans took to social media to share their thoughts and opinions on Lane Kiffin's salty comment after the Notre Dame-Indiana showdown. One fan had a bold comment for the Ole Miss head coach.
"Such a clown"
"Here's a thought: maybe don't have 3 losses," another fan said.
This fan felt that Kiffin was the reason why the Rebels failed to make it to the playoffs.
"Lane Kiffin should study how not to go 9-3 and this isn't a problem."
"Notre Dame would have done the same to Ole Miss. Quit crying and win your games," another fan said.
One fan stated that Lane Kiffin should choose a different medium to vent his frustration and anger.
"Lane needs to cry to his therapist not on X"
"BRO MOVE ON DAMN," a fan said.
While Notre Dame competes in the playoffs, Ole Miss will face the Duke Blue Devils in the Gator Bowl. After winning the Peach Bowl last season, Kiffin and the Rebels can secure another Bowl victory on Jan. 2.
Notre Dame HC Marcus Freeman expresses joy in first-round victory over Indiana in the playoffs
The Fighting Irish had the advantage throughout the game against the Hoosiers. Indiana scored two touchdowns near the end of the fourth quarter. However, the deficit was too deep for them to overcome.
In the post-game press conference, Marcus Freeman talked about how it was a new experience for him and how it was a historic moment for the program.
"I've never been part of an environment like that. Not many times in life you're the first to do something, and as I told the team in there, we were the first to win and play a playoff game in Notre Dame Stadium. That's historic. Something we'll cherish for the rest of our lives," Freeman said.
The Fighting Irish will now take on the Georgia Bulldogs in the All-State Sugar Bowl. It will be interesting to see if Marcus Freeman can finish the season as the underdog natty champions.
