Fran Brown is entering his first year as coach of Syracuse in 2024. He will take centerstage during the program's ACC Media Day on Thursday.
Brown will want to make his first season count and for that, he needs a quarterback who can be relied upon. With all the options available, he needs to settle on one starter.
Predicting Fran Brown's starting quarterback at Syracuse for 2024
As things stand, Kyle McCord is expected to get the nod as Syracuse's starting quarterback for the 2024 season. The signal-caller will also represent the program at the ACC Media Day on Thursday, along with coach Fran Brown.
McCord transferred to Syracuse this offseason after spending three years at Ohio State. He had a two-year stint as a backup and had limited game time before taking over the starting role with the Buckeyes last season.
In the 2023 season, McCord threw for 3,170 yards on 211 passes with 24 touchdowns. He earned a third-team All-Big Ten selection. Across three seasons, McCord has totaled 3,505 yards and 27 touchdowns on 252 passes.
Last season, Garrett Shradder was named Syracuse's starting quarterback under then-coach Dino Babers. He finished the season with 1,686 yards and 13 touchdowns on 134 passes before declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft, where he went undrafted.
McCord appears to have done enough to set himself as Syracuse's starting quarterback in 2024. He also starred in the Syracuse Spring Game in April, completing 18-of-28 pass attempts for 242 passing yards and a touchdown as his team raced to a 31-10 victory.
Syracuse also has Carlos Del Rio-Wilson in its quarterback ranks for the upcoming season. He featured for the team in seven games last season, throwing for 282 yards on 26 passes with three touchdowns.
Rio-Wilson is likely to serve as the backup to McCord at Syracuse this year. Meanwhile, Braden Davis is expected to fill in as the third-choice quarterback.
