The 21st-ranked Syracuse Orange has been able to do incredibly well throughout the first season of coach Fran Brown. Ahead of the DirecTV Holiday Bowl against the Washington State Cougars, there have been questions regarding which players are going to be active due to the NCAA Transfer Portal and opt outs for this bowl game.

However, the quarterback position is expected to be unchanged despite the fact that the bowl game does not mean too much in terms of anything going forward. Brown has made it clear by stating that opt outs don't happen at Syracuse. Let's take a deeper dive into the quarterback depth chart and see how this game is going to look for Syracuse's offense.

Syracuse Orange's starting QB against the Washington State Cougars

Just as it has been for the entire 2024 college football season, Syracuse will have senior quarterback Kyle McCord getting the start against Washington State. He had an outstanding first year after transferring from Ohio State a year ago as he completed 367-of-558 (65.8%) of his passes for 4,326 yards with 29 passing touchdowns to 12 interceptions and added three rushing touchdowns also.

Do not expect any other quarterback on the roster to replace McCord unless the game becomes a blowout and Brown wants to see the future. Syracuse wants to win its 10th game of the season, and this is something that is going to be intriguing to watch.

Syracuse Orange QB depth chart

Syracuse's depth chart for the quarterback position has been relying on two quarterbacks being on the roster this season. Obviously, McCord is at the top of the depth chart as he has been Orange's starter for the entire season.

Senior quarterback Michael Johnson Jr. is the only other quarterback on the depth chart that has attempted a pass during the regular season, as he has gone 2-of-3 for 31 yards under center thus far.

Behind him will likely be junior quarterback Carlos Del Rio-Wilson and then a combination of Patrick Grusser, AJ Miller, and Jakhari Williams if an emergency pops up and the program needs a fourth quarterback to play in this game.
