Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel believes that Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward might be at the top of the New York Giants' wishlist during next year's draft. The Giants announced on Monday that they were benching quarterback Daniel Jones.

On Monday's episode of FS1's "The Facility" show, Daniel thinks that Giants general manager Joe Schoen visited Colorado to see whether Sanders might be a good fit for his team next year. When asked his opinion on the Giants benching Jones, Daniel said:

"To me, this tells me they (Giants) are tanking. They are tanking for Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward." [Timestamp: 0:37]

Daniel, who played 14 seasons in the NFL before calling it quits last year, added:

"If you knew this was gonna be the case, Joe Schoen, you decided to pay him (Jones) $40 million per year. You let Saquon (Barkley) walk. You decided to let your whole franchise go in the way of Daniel Jones.
"You knew this was coming. I knew it was coming. Daniel Jones has not been playing well, and for you to go out there and say 'we're bypassing Drew Lock to get to Tommy DeVito,' I just don't like it."

The Giants (2-8) have had a torrid start to the 2024 NFL season. They are at the bottom of the NFC East and virtually have no chance of making the playoffs.

The Giants can now look toward rebuilding their roster for next season but could enter the 2025 draft with a quarterback as their priority. They can get an earlier draft pick as well if they finish with a dismal record in comparison to other teams this season.

Joe Schoen reportedly attended the Colorado vs. Utah game at Folsom Field on Saturday. There are rumors that he might have been in attendance to monitor Shedeur Sanders.

Sanders, enjoying a fabulous season with the Buffaloes, led his team to a 49-24 win over the weekend. The quarterback completed 30 of 41 passes for 341 yards and threw three touchdowns with one interception.

Sanders is in contention to win the Heisman Trophy this season. He has recorded 3,222 yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions. The signal-caller also has four rushing touchdowns across 10 games for No. 16 Colorado (8-2, 6-1 Big 12).

Sanders is likely to enter the NFL draft next year and it will be interesting to see whether he ends up with the Giants.
