College football insider RJ Young thinks Travis Hunter should be the clear winner of the Heisman Trophy. Hunter, the star receiver and cornerback for the Colorado Buffaloes, has been making a significant impact this season.
The Heisman Trophy race is largely seen as a two-horse race between Hunter and Ashton Jeanty. Jeanty has gotten support from many, including the Oregon Ducks mascot, who appeared on "The Pat McAfee Show" and expressed that snaps aren't a stat, which is Hunter's best attribute.
However, speaking on his "Number One College Football Show" on Monday, Young took aim at the Oregon Ducks mascot and said Hunter should be the Heisman winner.
"This man played 1,443 snaps this season, to which the Oregon Duck said snaps is not a statistic," Young said. [5:23] "To which I say, if it's not a statistic, why do we count them? Where did you get the number from if it's not a statistic?...
"Someone tell the Oregon Duck to go call Sydney Sweeney, who don't call you back and go hit up on that, because you don't know what you talking about, talking about snap counts."
Young then pointed to the fact that Hunter is a Biletnikoff nominee. The award is for the best receiver in college and he was one of three to be nominated. The analyst then pointed to the fact Hunter is also one of the best cornerbacks in the country which will help his case.
Deion Sanders says Travis Hunter clinched the Heisman Trophy
Travis Hunter is the betting favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. On Nov. 29, the Buffaloes defeated Oklahoma State 52-0. Hunter recorded 10 receptions for 116 yards and three touchdowns while recording two pass breakups and one interception on defense. After the game, coach Deion Sanders said the Heisman Trophy was clinched.
"Travis clinched the Heisman with his performance," Sanders said postgame, via theScore.
"He made a lot of people aware of how ignorant they was with the Thorpe," Sanders added of Hunter. "His performance today, what did he have? Three touchdowns, 100 yards, and an interception? And two passes broken up. He should have had another pick, hit him right in the darn chest. I'm not happy with that, but I'm happy with him."
Travis Hunter finished the year with 1,152 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns while adding 4 interceptions and 1 forced fumble.
