The Texas Tech Red Raiders announced Monday that program legends tight end Andre Tillman, linebacker Thomas Howard and wide receiver Wes Welker will be enshrined in its ring of honor on Sept. 13.

The ceremony will be held on the day the team plays against the North Texas Mean Green. The inductees will represent the No. 9, 10 and 11 of the select few players to have that honor in program history.

Texas Tech athletics director Kirby Hocutt said in a statement on Monday:

“The Ring of Honor is reserved for the best of the best in the history of Texas Tech Football. Without question, the likes of Thomas Howard, Andre Tillman and Wes Welker belong in that category and are deserving inductees into the Ring of Honor. We’re pleased to welcome them and their families back to campus this season to take their place forever inside Jones AT&T Stadium.”

Texas Tech Ring of Honor inducts Patrick Mahomes

The most famous personality in Texas Tech Red Raiders history to get inducted into the roll of honor is Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes who has won three Super Bowl rings.

Mahomes finished his college football career for the Red Raiders with 11,252 yards thrown, resulting in 93 touchdowns, just behind program legends Kliff Kingsbury and Graham Harrell.

When Mahomes was inducted into the program's ring of honor in 2022, Red Raiders athletic director Kirby Hocutt praised his connection to the program, saying:

"When you look at the face of the NFL, that is Patrick Mahomes. Patrick's accomplishments at Texas Tech are well-documented with his success as one of the top quarterbacks in college football history. Patrick is an NFL MVP and a Super Bowl champion, but he's, most importantly, a Red Raider who remains an avid supporter of our great university."

During the ceremony, current Texas Tech Red Raiders coach Joey McGuire was also full of praise for the most famous face to have ever worn the program's jersey.

"Patrick Mahomes is a once-in-a-generation type talent at quarterback and a deserving inductee into the Ring of Honor. We are so proud he is a Red Raider and can't wait to welcome him back home this fall," McGuire said.

The Red Raiders have a very exclusive list of Ring of Honor inductees with some of the most recognizable faces in football.
