Texas Tech vs TCU prediction & betting tips - October 26

The Texas Tech Red Raiders will face the TCU Horned Frogs in Week 9 of the 2024 season. The game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at the Amon G Carter Stadium.

The Red Raiders (5–2, 3-1 Big 12) are coming off a loss at the hands of the Baylor Bears. The Horned Frogs (4–3, 2–2) are coming off a win over the Utah Utes.

Texas Tech had a good stint midseason with a four-game win streak before its large and surprising defeat to Baylor last weekend.

Quarterback Behren Morton threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns in the defeat. This included throwing his first home interception of the season, with the Bears able to convert into a score.

The Red Raiders have the conference's leading running back, Tahj Brooks, on their roster. He recorded 804 rushing yards and eight touchdowns from 149 carries this season and is likely to be a threat against TCU.

However, considering last week's game, Texas Tech's defense might cost it the game. It conceded 59 points against weaker opposition, something it cannot afford to do against TCU.

TCU won last week. The Horned Frogs recorded a narrow 13–7 win over the Utah Utes, something unthinkable at the beginning of the season. TCU's offense was not great, with running back Josh Hoover scoring the team's only touchdown.

But what the team lacked on offense it made up for on defense. Horned Frogs coach Sonny Dyke said after the game:

"We had to sell out to stop the run, and that’s what we did. We tackled exceptionally well ... and it's a huge thing for us as it’s the first time this year we played complimentary football where both sides played well together."

TCU can win if it brings this defense and makes a small improvement on its offense.

This should be a close game between two teams needing a win to help their season. While it is unlikely that either team will get the result it had last week, TCU has shown slightly more competence and should be able to hold on for what will be a close win.

According to Fanduel, the TCU Horned Frogs are six-point favorites to win the game. The over/under for the game is set at 66 points.
