The Texas Longhorns are looking to bounce back after falling from the No. 1 spot in the AP Top 25 after suffering the first loss of the season. In Week 8, Texas fell to 6-1 with a 30-15 loss against the Georgia Bulldogs.
In Week 9, the Longhorns will have a challenge with another AP Top 25 matchup against the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday. Vanderbilt students are looking forward to the game, and are throwing shade at Texas with a sign hung on a campus house.
The sign reads, "Texas throws beers. Ewers throws picks. Pavia throws dimes," referring to the Longhorns' loss last weekend. Quinn Ewers turned the ball over three times in the loss to Georgia, throwing an interception and losing two fumbles. Ewers has thrown four interceptions this season, all of which have come within his last five games.
The sign also shamed fans for throwing debris onto the field after a pass-interference call that was overturned, resulting in a Longhorns interception. Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian walked over to the section throwing the debris, pleading with the crowd to stop trashing the field. The final line of the sign is in support of Commodores QB, Diego Pavia.
Steve Sarkisian will likely use this to fuel his team entering the weekend. His team will look to re-establish as a dominant force in the SEC with a win on Saturday.
Vanderbilt puts up net to prevent debris throwing from Texas fans
The Vanderbilt football staff took extra measures to ensure the cleanliness of FirstBank Stadium, putting up a net to prevent debris throwing in this weekend's matchup.
The net is set up in front of the visitor's seating section. Vanderbilt athletic director Candice Storey Lee stated that the netting was precautionary and could stay up for the Commodores' matchup versus the Tennessee Volunteers later this year.
Vanderbilt is searching for its second top-five upset of the season after taking down the then-No. 1-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 6. Including the win over Alabama, the Commodores have won three straight and entered the AP Top 25 for the first time since the 2013 season, when the team finished at No. 24.
The Longhorns open the week as an 18.5-point favorite over Vanderbilt, searching for a third Top 25 win of the season.
