After a victory in the first round of the College Football Playoff, the Texas Longhorns faced the Arizona State Sun Devils in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on Wednesday. The Longhorns entered the matchup as an overwhelming 13.5-point favorite over the Sun Devils.

Texas had a dominant 38-24 win over the Clemson Tigers in the first round. Arizona State earned a first-round bye in the playoff after defeating the Iowa State Cyclones 45-19 in the Big 12 Conference Championship game.

Texas got a fast start in the first half, overwhelming the Sun Devils to take a 17-3 lead at halftime. Arizona State came out swinging in the second half, outscoring Texas 21-7 in the final two periods of regulation to force overtime at 24-24 after a missed field goal from Texas.

Arizona State drew first blood in overtime with a three-yard touchdown run from Cam Skattebo to take a 31-24 lead. Texas responded in their first drive of the first overtime period with a 28-yard pitch-and-catch from Quinn Ewers to Matthew Golden.

Texas opened up the second overtime with a passing touchdown to Gunnar Helm on the opening play, taking a 39-31 lead over the Sun Devils after converting the two-point conversion.

Texas vs. Arizona State: Game summary

Arizona State opened the game with a 39-yard field goal to cap off a 12-play, 63-yard drive. Quinn Ewers connected with Matthew Golden for a 54-yard gain before finding DeAndre Moore Jr. for a 23-yard touchdown, taking a 7-3 lead.

On Arizona State's ensuing drive, the Longhorns forced a punt, which Silas Bolden returned 75 yards for a touchdown to take a 14-3 lead into the second quarter. Texas kicked a 22-yard field goal to take a 17-3 lead into the locker rooms at the half.

Arizona State forced a safety in the third quarter and kicked a 36-yard field goal on the ensuing drive to cut the lead to 17-8. The Longhorns answered with a 13-play, 76-yard drive capped off by a five-yard touchdown run from Ewers to extend their lead to 24-8.

The Sun Devils responded with a trick play as Cam Skattebo connected with Malik McClain on a halfback pass for a 42-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 24-16 after converting the two-point conversion.

Arizona State forced an interception on the ensuing drive before Sam Leavitt found Skattebo, who picked up 62 yards on the catch to set up the Sun Devils for a two-yard rushing touchdown to tie the game at 24-24. Texas missed two field goals down the fourth quarter stretch to take the game to overtime.

The Sun Devils scored in overtime to take a 31-24 run after a three-yard touchdown run from Skattebo. Texas answered as Ewers found Golden for a 28-yard touchdown.

In the second overtime, Ewers connected with Gunnar Helm for a 25-yard touchdown to take a 39-31 lead after converting the two-point attempt. The Longhorns forced a game-sealing interception on Arizona State's ensuing drive to secure a Peach Bowl victory and advance to the Cotton Bowl, where they will face either Ohio State or Oregon.
