The number one-ranked Texas Longhorns (6-1) hosted the number five-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (6-1) on Saturday in a matchup between two of the best teams in the nation. Most analysts favored Texas, but the Bulldogs were expected to keep the game close.
However, when things kicked off, the Bulldogs established a dominant lead early and never let go. The Bulldogs took a 23-0 lead in the first half, and although Texas scored 15 points in the third quarter, they held on to a 30-15 win.
The quarterbacks were crucial in each team's offense, so let's look at how they performed.
Texas vs Georgia player stats
#1 Texas QB Quinn Ewers
#2 Georgia QB Carson Beck
Despite a quarterback being the most crucial part of a football team's offense, it was not a great night for either team's quarterbacks.
Quinn Ewers threw for more yards with 211 compared with Beck's 175 but only had two passing touchdowns. Both players had interceptions, but Beck had three to Ewers' one and had an uneventful passing night overall.
However, Ewers was the much worse rusher in this game. Neither was spectacular, as Beck only gained eight yards on four carries. However, Ewers had -34 yards on six carries, and his longest rush was only three yards.
It was a night below both quarterbacks' standards, especially for players who have been in the Heisman conversation at different points this season.
Instead of the quarterbacks having a significant impact, the game was decided by the difference in the running game. The Bulldogs rushed for 110 yards compared to Texas' 29.
Texas performance analysis
Texas gained fewer yards with 259, but only by a small margin. The biggest issue for Texas in this game was Turnovers, as they had four - including three fumbles.
This stopped the Longhorns from capitalizing on having more first downs with 19. Overall, it was a tough night as they had awful third-down efficiency, only converting twice on 19 attempts.
Georgia performance analysis
The Bulldogs gained more yards than Texas with 285 and had three turnovers compared to Texas' four, all of which were interceptions thrown by Carson Beck.
Despite only generating 14 first downs, the Bulldogs scored more points than Texas and had a much better third-down conversion rate. They converted on six of 17 attempts.
